New studies show that an afternoon snooze is not so good for children. So should parents be banning the nap?

According to new studies in the US, children who have a nap sleep less well at night and do not perform mental tasks as well as children who make it through the day without a siesta.
But for parents of pre-school children, the afternoon nap is a welcome respite - a chance to have a breather or get a few essential chores done. Many may also feel intuitively that their children need a nap and that, without it, their children will be miserable and fractious by the end of the day.
What do you think? Should parents make an effort to phase out daytime sleeping for their children as early as possible, given the findings of these scientific studies? Or does mother (or father) know best - and is this just another example of parents being bossed around and made to feel they’re doing it wrong? Over to you …
