Actually, you’ve misread Randy Barnett’s position. (Admittedly, the CNS article is worded confusingly, so that was easy to do.) He didn’t suggest that much of the bill of rights had “no contemporary relevance.”

Rather, he agreed with Wittes that attacking the second amendment based on relevance was a bad idea. His point was that ‘relevance” could be a test applied against the other amendments, and used to read them out of existence.

Further, while I disagree with Wittes position, I appreciate his intellectual honesty, which you overlook. Wittes at least isn’t mouthing “I support the 2nd amendment” while trying to gut it with legislation. Wittes recognizes that repealing the 2nd is virtually impossible, but has the attitude that “while it’s there, you need to respect it.”

You’ve done both scholars a disservice, as they were both arguing that the second amendment, as a “right” needed to be respected and not dismissed as no longer relevant.

I expected more of an outrage over this incident than it has garnered to date. Since when do professional gatherings have a cop in every corner of the room just waiting for some reporter to ask an unwelcome question? And more alarming, where were his colleagues during this incident, or are reporters working independently with no regard for one another’s press rights? It may not seem a big deal to civil libertarians at the moment but when these kinds of attempts on censorship begin to add up to the point where everyone is noticing it, won’t it be too late?

Having known Anthony Moore for 27 years, I would like to share with you the fact that he suffers from tourette syndrome. It’s something we were genetically predisposed to. Having had to deal with this throughout my adolescence and early adulthood I know how hard it is when your brain is sending signals telling you to do something and you cannot control your actions. My niece and nephew were a blessing to our family and are missed everyday. Child support was not an issue because, as a family, we all shared the responsibility for caring and supporting Little Toni and Kanye. So once again the legal system has failed to take into consideration the expert testimony of two separate pyschiatrists’ statements (the defense and the state) that he could not have appreciated the wrongfulness of his actions at the time of this incident because of mental disease or defect. Instead, the legal system convicted him because he was “yawning” and “doodling”.

To summarize this published medical journal article:

1. In the FUTURE I trial, GARDASIL demonstrated no clinical efficacy among the general subject population for overall reduction in the rates of grade 2 and grade 3 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and adenocarcinoma — the only recognized precursors to cervical cancer.

2. In the larger FUTURE II trial, GARDASIL demonstrated no clinical efficacy among the general subject population for overall reduction in the rates of grade 3 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and adenocarcinoma — the strongest (and many would argue only valid) precursors to cervical cancer.

3. Extrapolating from GARDASIL’s very limited clinical “success” (in the FUTURE II study only) against grade 2 cervical dysplasias (40% of which regress spontaneously), 129 women would be have to be vaccinated (at a cost of about $60,000) to prevent a single grade 2 cervical dysplasia.

4. GARDASIL’s protection against cancer associated HPV strains 16 and 18 appears to cause a disproportionate increase in of pre-cancerous dysplasias associated with other HPV strains associated with cervical cancer “raising the possibility that other oncogenic HPV types eventually filled the biologic niche left behind after the elimination of HPV types 16 and 18.”

5. Even if you segregate out the women who hadn’t been previously exposed to either HPV 16 or 18, we are talking about just a 17% decrease in all high grade dysplasias (266 out of 6080 vs. 219 out of 6087) — many of which would spontaneously regress without treatment. So we would have vaccinate 129 women (at about $500 for the three shot regimen) to avoid a single, eminently treatable dysplasia. That’s about $60,000 per dysplasia prevented.

This is all directly from the article linked above.

I myself would add that we currently have only 3 years of follow up to go on in terms of both GARDASIL’s safety and efficacy among the 16 to 26 year female population, no data concerning its efficacy among 9 to 12 year old girls and only 18 months of follow up on less than 600 total preteen girls in terms of safety data about GARDASIL within its targeted population.

The more of us that have gone digital, one of the primary reasons is so we can SKIP the commercials. They will be getting creative comming up in a few years with product placement/endorsement and name dropping in series. They know that we record 14 minutes and then start watching just so we can skip past the garbage on a one hour show. The companies that pay for adds hate this.

They were already talking about overlays on shows so we couldn’t ignore it, think of the banner at the bottom of CNN’s screen.

The other way they can’t track me is I watch via computer rather than DVR/TV.

My question, at events like this, why doesn’t the fed group, ICE, get their tails in action and conduct massive arrests in public for those that ARE being disruptive, or violating the law on other charges (noise ordinence is an easy one!).

A local media channel caried a VERY interesting story. State, County may pull over illegals for speeding and or other violations; but unless there are over 10 or 12 persons in the vehical that are in immigrations violation, feds won’t touch it. The officer can only site them for the road violation and send them on their way, never to see them again.
