American entomologists on April 24, 2007 bravely published an article on the MAAREC.org website stating the names of pesticides containing neonicotinoids which are known to be highly toxic to bees and other pollinators. Neonicotinoids have been around since the 1990's but only recently perhaps 3 years ago, new neonicotinoids were introduced by Bayer Crop Science specifically these are Admire, Poncho, Gaucho and Provado. These pesticides may be distributed in other countries by other names. These new neonicotinoids cause bees to have loss of memory, disoriented behavior, weakened immune system and failure to eat which are the symptoms that the bees exhibit in the days before abandoning the hive. We do not have the luxury of time to debate weather, cell phones and God knows what other speculation. It is called colony collapse disorder because it is known that it is not caused by disease and the bees that can be found dead have died from pathogens resulting from a weakened immune system; that is why it is called the HIV of bees.
