Gang sex attack filmed on phone
A TEENAGE schoolgirl tonight remained in a Victorian hospital after she and a friend were allegedly sexually assaulted by a group of men who filmed the attack on a mobile phone.
The two teenagers, both aged 15, were sitting on a footpath outside a building in Geelong, southwest of Melbourne, at about 11.50pm (AEST) on Saturday, when they were approached by five men.
Detective Acting Inspector Simon Clemence said one of the men grabbed one of the girls by the arm and pulled her away from her friend.
“He then took her to one side and started kissing her against her will,” Mr Clemence said.
“Another two of the males then held the other girl on the ground and one of them digitally raped her,” he said.
“While this was happening one of the males, we believe, was taking video footage of the attack on his mobile phone.”
Mr Clemence said the two girls managed to break free and run off.
“Both girls are extremely traumatised by this (attack),” he said.
“The girl who was subject to the (digital rape) was still in hospital internal injuries.”
“This was an extremely brazen attack on two defenceless schoolgirls.
“These five males have acted with a pack mentality. They’ve displayed an attitude towards women that is absolutely atrocious.”
Mr Clemence said the teenagers had told police their attackers smelt of alcohol and cigarette smoke.
He said it was “highly likely” the men would attack again.
Police today released footage of the men taken at a nightclub prior to the attack, in the hope someone may be able to identify them.
“We have some very good footage of the offenders, it shows them entering the nightclub,” Mr Clemence said.
One of the men is described as approximately 180cm tall, with an olive complexion, slicked-back dark coloured hair, wearing a blue striped top and jeans.
The other man is described as having an olive complexion, spiky dark hair and wearing a dark coloured long-sleeved top and jeans.
It was the latest in a series of alleged sex attacks to be filmed on mobile phone cameras.
Last month Sydney police arrested five teenagers over the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl at a Sydney home on January 9.
Police say the alleged assault was recorded on a mobile phone video camera and copies circulated among school students.
In March eight teenagers were charged over a DVD showing the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old Melbourne girl last June. The DVD, shot around Werribee, on Melbourne’s western fringe, was sold in schools and segments were also posted on the website, YouTube.
