Bridgeton Police say it was a “by the book arrest” even though a handcuffed suspect managed to take off in a police cruiser.

On Saturday police say Daniel Guffey, 28 was properly secured in the back seat of a police cruiser, but Guffey’s family members distracted the officers. Guffey was able to slip into the front seat of the police car and drive off.

He was later arrested in St. Peters.

Guffey is charged with resisting arrest and stealing a police vehicle.

Investigators baffled after suspect steals police vehicle

Investigators are trying to figure out how a suspect stole a Bridgeton Police car.

Police say Daniel Guffey took off in the police car and led officers on a chase that ended in St. Peters.

Guffey’s being held on traffic and drug charges, but more charges are expected soon.

Bridgeton Police are not saying how Guffey was able to drive away in one of their vehicles.
