Illinois State Police and East St. Louis Police are investigating the murder of a 46-year-old East St. Louis man early, whose body was discovered early Thursday.
The victim was identified as Barry M. Lowery. Preliminary investigation indicated Lowery died of an apparent gunshot wound.
About 5:21 a.m. Thursday, police responded to a house at 649 N. 53rd St. When they arrived and looked through a window, they saw what appeared to be a lifeless body of a man, East St. Louis Detective Marion Riddle said.
Once inside, police were able to determine that the victim, who was laying on the floor in the front portion of his home, had been shot one time and was not breathing, Riddle said.
Neighbors said Lowery lived alone.
Police have no motive in this killing or any suspects. No one heard any loud arguments, Riddle said. Police did not recover a weapon.
Deputy St. Clair County Coroner Mike Schutzenhofer responded and pronounced Lowery dead at 6:17 a.m.
This is the third person killed by gunfire in two days in East St. Louis.
On Wednesday, a 19-year-old East St. Louis man and a 35-year-old Belleville man were killed by stray bullets from passing vehicles.
