According to Politifact.com and their popular “Truth-o-Meter” tool, Ron Paul is the most truthful presidential candidate out of the entire field, Democrats and Republicans included, and has not lied once during televised public debates.
The website is an offshoot of the St. Petersburg Times newspaper and ranks the candidates based on the truthfulness of their responses to questions and answers given during debates.
Out of the eight statements made by Paul or his campaign, Politifact judged three to be true, four to be mostly true and just one to be false.
Even the answer judged as false is harsh because it relates to Paul’s contention that he never votes for anything that is not explicitly authorized in the Constitution - the Congressman’s support for Americans to acknowledge Martin Luther King day invalidates this according to the strict standards of the “Truth-o-meter”.
In comparison, Barack Obama has lied on numerous occasions or at best told half-truths according to the ranking system.
Republican Mike Huckabee has mostly told half-truths and has lied on five other occasions.
Hillary Clinton has also lied five times while Rudy Giuliani has told porkies on ten occasions.
The latest statement under scrutiny is that of Ron Paul when he told Tim Russert last week, ?If you got rid of the income tax today you’d have about as much revenue as we had 10 years ago.? The claim is judged as “mostly true”.
