Relatives of missing East St. Louis woman, child say police have found human remains
Illinois State Police may have found the remains of a missing pregnant East St. Louis woman and her four-year-old cousin, family members said police told them Wednesday.Relatives of Anquiaette Parker, then 19, who disappeared in November 2005 with her cousin Cermen “CJ” Toney Jr., then 4, said police have not confirmed any identities.
Illinois State Police Lt. Mark Bramblett would not say whether police found human remains as they worked in a steady downpour of rain Wednesday near a house in the 9200 block of Collinsville Avenue near Canteen Creek.
“We have found some potential new evidence in the Parker-Toney disappearance case. We’re here at the scene processing it,” he said. “To protect the integrity of the case, we can’t discuss the nature of the evidence.”
Illinois State Police, along with East St. Louis Police, arrived at the scene and began searching at noon. It appeared they were looking in a nearby well. They were using tall search lights to illuminate the area.
Bramlett said the evidence will be taken to state crime lab for processing and that there could be a press conference within the next two days.
Daisy Brown, the grandmother of Parker and C.J., said police called her and told her they had found some human remains. Parker’s father, Greg Parker, and C.J.’s aunt, Michelle Johnson, also said police informed them.
“We’re just holding on and bracing ourselves for the worse,” Johnson said. “We don’t think they would’ve called us if they weren’t pretty sure…. This is really not good. We didn’t pray for this but we were looking for closure so we can start to heal. We have to wait, though, until they are positive that it is them.”
