The price of fuel has sent the number of pump drive-offs soaring. Now, some police departments are tired of trying to chase down the thieves. So several Metro East departments have made that an official policy, not to respond. That has led to some protests. From lobbyists for gas stations and convenience stores, they say police are breaking the law by refusing to enforce the law. But Fairview Heights, Collinsville, and O’Fallon, IL says officers could be using that time better.
